38 BNP leaders and activists arrested in Gaibandha

GaibandhaCorrespondent: Police arrested a total of 52 persons, including, 38 leaders and activists of BNP, its front organisations and Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh from different places of the Gaibandha district last night, police sources said.

Confirming the arrest, Tabibar Rahman, Operator of District Police Control Room said, Police have arrested 52 people during drives in two upazila of the district.

The drive was conducted from Thursday (January 19) night to Friday (January 20) morning.

Atiar Rahman, officer in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station said the arrested leaders and activist of BNP and its front organisations and Jamaat are allegedly involved with hurling petrol bombs, killing innocent people, blasting cocktail bombs and other terrorist activities in recent times.

The arrestees will be sent to the jail through the court, the OC added.

Besides, police arrested some other people, including absconding accused persons of different cases, warrantees, thieves, muggers, drug traders, anti-social elements and other suspicious people from all eight upazilas in the district.
