Four people have died in a road accident in the Manikchhari area of Rangamati’s Sapchhari Union. Two others were seriously injured in the incident.
The accident occurred on Sunday (August 16) morning on the Rangamati-Khagrachhari highway, in front of the Manikchhari Army Camp.
According to police and eyewitness sources, a pickup truck (Chattogram Metro N-11-2599) carrying passengers from Rangamati town lost control while on its way to Kutukchhari Bazar, just in front of the Manikchhari Army Camp. The pickup veered off the road and was severely damaged.
Following the incident, police and army personnel, with the help of locals, promptly rescued the victims and sent them to Rangamati Hospital. Dr. Shawkat Akbar, Resident Medical Officer of Rangamati General Hospital, stated that four people were dead upon arrival at the hospital, and two were seriously injured, one of whom has since been referred to Chattogram.
The victims who died in the accident were Meghrani Chakma (45), Shantona Chakma (38), Shobha Chakma (52), and Shanti Ranjan Chakma (65).
Gyan Bikash Chakma (50) and Sumon Chakma (45), who were critically injured in the accident, were rescued and admitted to Rangamati General Hospital in critical condition.
Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Khokon Kanti Rudra, In-charge of Manikchhari Police Camp, Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, stated that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered, and immediate arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured. The damaged vehicle has been seized, and legal proceedings are underway.
