Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that the current government is fully committed to fulfilling the expectations and aspirations of the martyrs and victims of the country’s democratic movements. Despite limited resources, the government will provide maximum support to the families of those who were victims of enforced disappearances and killings, and those who suffered losses or were martyred during the July mass uprising.
He made these remarks on Saturday afternoon at the Karobi Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, during an event where job appointment letters were formally handed over to 74 members of families affected by enforced disappearances and killings, and those who suffered losses or were martyred during the July mass uprising.
The Prime Minister said, ‘The irreparable loss you have suffered can never be fully compensated. Nevertheless, we have been with you, we are with you, and we will remain with you in the future.’
In an emotional voice, Tarique Rahman stated, ‘Today’s event is extremely painful for us. We are remembering people who should have been among us today. But sadly, they are not.’
He further said that it was through their great sacrifice that the people of the country were freed from fascist rule. The Prime Minister also commented that only Allah knows the whereabouts and condition of those who are still missing or absent, urging everyone to pray for them.
Recalling the sacrifices of martyrs from the Great Liberation War of 1971, various democratic movements throughout the post-independence era, and the recent July mass uprising, the Prime Minister affirmed that the government is determined to implement the goals and aspirations of the freedom fighters, victims of enforced disappearances, killings, and torture at various times, and the martyrs and victims of the July movement.
He noted, ‘Due to various realities, it is often not possible to achieve everything quickly. But we will continue to make our utmost efforts.’
The Prime Minister added that many of those who made great sacrifices for significant achievements are no longer alive. Those who are alive have sacrificed the most for the people of the country and have suffered in various ways. He pledged that the government would make its best efforts to realize the goals and objectives achieved through their sacrifices.
Referring to the family members of the martyrs and activists as the government’s primary source of strength and inspiration, Tarique Rahman said that it is their sacrifice, support, and cooperation that empower the government to work with full vigor.
He stated, ‘You are our main source of strength and motivation.’
Calling upon the families of the martyrs to stand by the government, the Prime Minister urged them to provide cooperation and encouragement. This, he said, would enable the government to work towards fulfilling the expectations that all self-sacrificing democratic fighters, including the martyrs, had for the country and the nation.
During the event, members of families affected by enforced disappearances, killings, and those martyred or injured during the July mass uprising delivered speeches, sharing their feelings and expectations with the Prime Minister.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shiblie, Deputy Press Secretaries Zahidul Islam Rony, Hasan Shiplu, Sujauddoula, Shahadat Swadhin, Assistant Press Secretaries AKM Nazmul Haque, Shahriar Pamir, and Moksedul Momin Mithun, a member of the ‘Amra BNP Paribar’ (We BNP Family), along with other relevant officials, were present at the event.
