Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that a cocktail bomb blast occurred in front of the High Court in reaction to the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict sentencing seven individuals to death. He said the incident was not a major issue. Those involved in the incident have been identified after reviewing CCTV footage.
He made these remarks on Tuesday (September 15) afternoon, responding to journalists’ questions after a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat.
The Home Minister said, “Perhaps two Awami miscreants threw cocktail bombs in front of the High Court. We have already identified who they are after reviewing the CCTV camera footage.”
Regarding the cocktail blast, he said, “Perhaps a cocktail bomb was thrown as part of a reaction to the court’s verdict against these fascist collaborators. We will find this out.”
He further added, “A cocktail bomb exploded in reaction to the death sentence for seven people—that’s it. This is not a major issue.”
Regarding the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict, Salahuddin Ahmed said that the verdict delivered by the Tribunal is judicial fairness. He believes that the victims and the people of the country have received justice from the court.
He stated that the government has no comment on the court’s verdict. The court is independent, and it delivered this verdict because it deemed it appropriate after the judicial process.
Earlier, responding to journalists’ questions regarding various activities of the Awami League, the Home Minister said that the Awami League, whose activities are banned, sometimes carries out subversive activities. As part of this, a small number of people held a procession after Fajr prayers and recorded it. However, in Gulshan, some people gathered around 11 AM, claiming to offer Juma prayers, and then held a procession. Action was subsequently taken regarding this incident.
He said there was intelligence information on this matter. However, the police could not anticipate that they would engage in such activities after coming to pray. There is no scope to call this a police failure. Subsequently, law enforcement agencies took necessary action.
