Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s funeral will be held on Wednesday (December 31) at 2:00 pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Khatib of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram will lead the prayer. He will be buried next to the grave of Shaheed Zia with state dignity.
Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this after an emergency meeting at BNP Chairperson’s political office on Tuesday (December 30) afternoon. Earlier, the party’s standing committee leaders held an emergency meeting at 12 noon.
BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku were present on this occasion.
Mirza Fakhrul said, Begum Zia’s death is an irreparable loss for the people of the country. He left when he was needed the most.
Begum Khaleda Zia breathed her last while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at 6 am today (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
The government has declared three days of state mourning from Wednesday to Friday (December 31 and January 1 and 2) for Khaleda Zia’s death. Apart from this, Wednesday (December 31) will be a general holiday across the country.
