Arrest Warrants Issued Against the Accused in Blasphemy Case in Rajbari

Own Correspondent : According to the court sources, the judicial magistrate’s court in Rajbari has issued arrest warrants against the accused in a high-profile ongoing blasphemy case.

The case was initially filed on 16 February of this year against several writers, bloggers, and activists accused of disseminating derogatory remarks about Islam. The allegations center particularly on writings published by various bloggers and authors on a website called Atheist Note. The complainant, Rafi Ahmed Firoze, filed the case under Sections 295/295(A) of the Penal Code (Bangladesh) 1860 (as amended).
Judicial Magistrate Tamzid Ahmed of the Magistrate Court’s Cognizance section in Rajbari Sadar took cognizance of the matter and directed the Detective Branch of the Rajbari Sadar Police Station to conduct a thorough investigation. The case has also been registered as a G.R. (General Record) case. Prior hearings were held on 18 May and 30 July this year, during which the Detective branch of Rajbari Police requested time-extensions to complete their report, which the court approved.

During the most recent hearing on 10 August, 2025, the Detective branch again requested additional time to submit their report, which the court granted, while simultaneously ordering the issuance of arrest warrants against the defendants. The Detective branch reported to the court that most of the accused have already been identified.
A total of 25 individuals have been named as defendants in the case. The accused include: Azmain Sharer Ornob, Nusrat Sujana Nowrin, Phahin Alam, Mohammad Abdul Kader Sumel, Shamim Al Mamun, Shiplu Kumar Barmon, Md. Jakir Hossain, Morsed Alam, Abubakar Siddiq, Md. Abir Hossain, Md. Fahad Hossain, Md Mijanur Rahaman, Md. Al Amin Kaiaer, Md. Abdul Razzak, Mukit Chowdhury, Muhammad Shahidul Islam Jaigirdar, Md. Razim Hossain, Musa Ahmed Jaigerder, Abdullah Al Mahmud Farid, Md. Mazharul Islam, Gazi Mohammad Saiful Islam, among others.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 27, 2025.
