Sports desk: Mushfiqur Rahim is likely to miss the second and final Test against New Zealand in Christchurch due to a finger injury. The Bangladesh captain has cleared of fracture a few days ago but a new hairline crack in the thumb is set to hurt his chances of playing the Test.

Rahim was hit in the neck by a Tim Southee bouncer on the fifth and final day of the first Test before he was forced to leave the field. Dean Conway, the Bangladesh team physio, said that the finger injury is more of a concern for the think-tank.

"His finger injury is worse," he said on Wednesday (January 18). "The hairline crack that has been found is new. He will need to give more time for this injury.

"Doctors in New Zealand usually advise not playing for three to four weeks. In England, they advise not taking the field for two to three weeks. In that regard, Mushfiqur may need three to four weeks to return."

This also presents Nurul Hasan with an opportunity to make a Test debut. He has played two One-Day Internationals and nine Twenty20 Internationals so far. The right-hander averages 41.81 with the bat in the 49 first-class games he has played so far.
