'Sunny shared nude photographs via Facebook'
Staff Correspondent: National Cricket team player Arafat Sunny was arrested on charges of sharing and blackmailing a young woman by sharing her nude photographs via a fake account on social networking site Facebook.
The Mohammadpur police arrested Sunny in Dhaka’s Aminbazar area on Sunday morning.
Investigating official Mohammad police sub-inspector (SI) Yahya Ahmed said Arafat Sunny registered a fake account on the name of the woman, reported to be his girlfriend, and was blackmailing her by posting exposed photographs of her on Facebook.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said a team of Mohammadpur police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the cricketer at about 9:00am.
Jamaluddin Mir, officer‐in‐charge of the police station, said Nasrin Sultana, a friend of Sunny, filed the case against the cricketer under the ICT Act on 5 January.
The OC also said they will produce Sunny before the court in the afternoon and seek a five‐day custody for interrogation.
Arafat Sunny is a left-handed batsman and slow left arm spinner of Bangladesh National Cricket team. The 30-year-old player made his debut for Dhaka Division in 2001. He broke into Bangladesh’s one-day international (ODI) side in early 2014.
He took 2-31 in his first outing against Sri Lanka, but his two best performances came in November 2014 when he took 4-27 and 4-29 in two matches against Zimbabwe, in a good show of form ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
