BNP angry, disappointed at EC search committee
Staff Correspondent:BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said the party was not only disappointed but also angry at the formation of a search committee to pick next Election Commission with people loyal to ruling Awami League.
‘So far the names came for the search committee, all are on good book of the ruling Awami League. The Public Service Commission chairman, Controller and Auditor General and the Chittagong University pro-vice-chancellor are appointed by this government and they publicly expressed their loyalty.
‘We had hoped of a neutral decision from the highest position of the state. He has missed the scope which was created to get an exit from the political crisis. Now the country again heads for uncertainty,’ he said. The President’s Office earlier in the morning sent a letter to the cabinet division proposing names for the six-member search committee. It was sent to the prime minister for her approval and then a gazette notification would be issued.
