Khaleda Zia appears before court today
Staff Correspondent:BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday appeared before a court in Dhaka in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Khaleda appeared before Judge Abu Ahmed Jomadar of Special Judge Court-3 at Bakshibazar around 11:25am.
Earlier in the day, defence lawyer submitted a petition seeking further probe into the case, saying that the investigation conducted earlier by the ACC was faulty, Taherul Islam Touhid, one of her lawyers, told bd24live.com.
On 26 January, the court fixed the January 30 as the date of hearing and asked the BNP chairperson to appear before it. In case she fails to comply, her bail would be cancelled, the court warned.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda, her eldest son Tarique, residing in the UK since 2008, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 lakh that was received as grant for orphans from a foreign bank.
