BNP circulate to bring back reformists
Staff Correspondent:BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has at last begun drawing the reformists of her party to strengthen the organization which is going through worst-ever crisis.
She has already instructed the party secretary general and some senior leaders to bring back the reformists, who had been dropped out of the party.
Asked about the move, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told media, “Such initiative was taken before 2014 national polls. At that time, then secretary general was dealing with the matter through discussion with the reformists and inactive leaders.”
“As the reformist leaders expressed their interest to get back to the party and felt sorry for their previous activities, the party high command is giving them an opportunity to be back.
It is just the restart of the previous initiative,” he added.
BNP sources said that the party secretary general has already discussed with a number of reformists and inactive leaders as part of the move.
The BNP chief also spoke to two party reformists and asked them to get active again in organisational activities, a party leader told daily sun.
BNP’s former information and research affairs secretary and ex-MP Zahir Uddin Swapan and former MP Sarder Shakhawat Hossain Bakul on Thursday night met Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office after around 10 years.
The duo had remained cornered with other reformist leaders led by party’s former standing committee member late Saifur Rahman and then secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan after 1/11 political changeover.
