4 engineers and contractors get 10 years jail
Staff Correspondent:Dhaka’s Fifth Special Judge’s Court has sentenced four people to 10-year rigorous imprisonment in a case filed over the death of four-year-old Jihad who fell into an abandoned but open deep tube-well.
Jihad fell into the shaft near his house inside the Shahjahanpur Railway Colony in the capital while he was playing with his friends on December 26, 2014. His dead body was pulled out by volunteers around 15 minutes after the fire service called off a near 23-hour search.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of declared the verdict on Sunday. The convicts are contractor for the shaft Md Shafiqul Islam, engineer Jahangir Alam, assistant engineers Md Nasir Uddin and Md Zafar Ahmed Shaki.
The court also fined them Tk 2 lakh each, in default, ordered them to serve two more years in jail.
Assistant engineers Dipak Kumar Bhawmik and Saiful Islam were acquitted from the charge.
