‘CEC’s bold words not reflected in actions’
Staff Reporter:BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmedo on Friday blamed the incumbent chief election commissioner for not reflecting his bold words in his actions on holding free and fair elections.
He alleged that the new CEC is moving through the “bloody path” following footsteps of his predecessor Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad. Rizvi said “The new chief election commissioner is not working according to his bold words on holding elections in an independent and fair manner.”
Rizvi was addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.
Pointing to the killing of two persons in Sylhet over an upazila parishad election, Rizvi said that anarchy is prevailing in different areas where local-level elections are scheduled to be held on March 6.
He said his party-backed candidates in the local body election were being attacked while they were carrying out election campaign in many places including Kalapara and Pabna areas.
The local level election commission offices are not taking any measure despite having allegation from the party men in this regards, he added.
Since the new EC took office, BNP has been alleging that the EC has a close connection with the ruling Awami League, Rizvi said.
“Our apprehension is coming true and the close relationship will be reflected in the next general election beyond doubt,” he added.
