People use boats for movement as heavy downpour downs Dhaka
Heavy rainfall, triggered by active monsoon, originated from Bay of Bengal for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday blocked the country, including capital Dhaka, throwing the life out of gear.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to take place at places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions during next 24 hours commencing at 10:00am on Wednesday due to active monsoon, a Met office special bulletin said.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower signal, the bulletin said. Now people are to use boats for movement.
Meanwhile, several parts of the city including Rokeya Sarani, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Senpara Parbata, Merul Badda, Gulshan, Bijay Sarani, Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Arambagh, Motijheel, Sukrabad, Kalabagan, Gulistan, Manik Mia Avenue and the parts of Old Dhaka were inundated due to the incessant downpour.
Commuters, especially office goers and students of schools and colleges have been facing severe problems in reaching their destinations for lack of transports.
Many roads got waterlogged due to the rain, intensifying their woes. The city dwellers were seen stranded for hours in traffic jam.
Low-income people, especially the day labourers, are suffering much as rains are disrupting their normal pace of life.
Apart from, rickshaw pullers and Compressed Natural Gas-run auto-rickshaw drivers have been charging excessive fair taking advantage of the inclement weather.
