HC asks IG to halt use of hydraulic horns by 48 hours
The High Court today asked the inspector general of police and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority’s chairman to halt use of hydraulic horns in the capital city to prevent sound pollution, within in 48 hours.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah also ordered the authorities to submit compliance about stopping use of hydraulic horns within two weeks.
The court asked the authorities concerned to halt import of hydraulic horns and seize such horns from the markets within seven days and report compliance within four weeks.
The court came up with the directions after hearing a writ petition enrolled by rights organization named Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh challenging the use of hydraulic horns which was making public nuisance.
According to writ petition, any machine which causes sound pollution cannot be used as per Motors Vehicles Ordinance. But violating the act, different vehicles are using hydraulic horns.
