41st death anniversary of National Poet being observed
The 41st death anniversary of our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is being observed with due solemnity across the country.
Today’s events started with placing wreaths at the poet’s tomb beside Dhaka University Central Mosque in the morning.
Family members of the poet including his granddaughter Khilkhil Kazi placed wreaths at the grave around 7:00am.
Teachers and students of Dhaka University, conducted by vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, and other political and non-political organisations placed wreaths at the poet’s grave this morning while road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, and Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also paid tributes to the poet at the grave.
Socio-cultural organisations, television channels and radio stations have several plans to elaborate programmes to mark the day.
Bangla Academy will hold a speech by professor Soumitra Shekhar on the life and contributions of Nazrul at the academy’s Kabi Shamsur Rahman Hall at 4:00pm.
