Happy Birthday, Mashrafe
The most successful ODI Tigers’ captain, skipper, the Narail Express and the ever fearless Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has turned 34 today.
He was born in Narail district on 5 October 1983.
Mashrafe, popularly known as the Narail Express, broke into the national side in 2001 against Zimbabwe and became a sensation immediately.
He was then arguably the fastest bowler for the country.
Mortaza made his international debut with the first Test of the Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe series in 2001. He remained immensely successful on his debut, bagging 4 crucial wickets that contributed towards a draw. Since then, he represented the country in 36 Tests and bagged 78 wickets. In ODIs, he has so far made 163 appearances. In the format, he has 208 wickets and 1450 runs. In T20Is, he has played 49 matches and scalped 38 wickets and scored 366 runs. His best bowling performance in Tests are two 5 wicket hauls which came against India and New Zealand. His best in ODIs is a 6-wicket-haul that came against Kenya while he has five 4-wicket-hauls. In T20Is, his best performance came against Ireland as he picked up 4 wickets.
Mortaza’s career as a player as well as a captain has been highly affected by injuries that kept him off the field quite frequently. Injury caused him to miss out on playing the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. However, he time and again made successful comebacks and is still one of the most crucial members of the team. Here’s wishing the Bangladesh captain a very happy birthday and many more to come.
He was also the former T-20 captain.
