Prime Minister Tarique Rahman commented that any attempt to bring back the Awami League while in opposition would be a betrayal of the martyrs of the July mass uprising.
He made this remark while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘July Memorial’ and the modernized Osmani Udyan in Dhaka on Monday (October 19).
Criticizing the opposition, the Prime Minister stated, “The opposition is opposing just for the sake of opposition. They did not participate in the inauguration ceremony of the July Memorial despite being invited, precisely because they do not uphold the spirit of July. The opposition has reverted to its previous stance.”
At this time, the Prime Minister urged the opposition to engage in constructive criticism.
Tarique Rahman said that even if there isn’t agreement on all matters, there is no scope for disagreement when it comes to the interests of the nation’s people.
Referring to the Great Liberation War of 1971 and the July mass uprising of 2024, he stated that the goal of both movements was to establish democratic rights.
The Prime Minister further added that through the July mass uprising, the people of the country regained their democratic rights. The July Memorial bears the names of 813 martyrs. In exchange for their blood, democratic rights have been re-established and a democratic government has been formed in the country.
He stated that the people, through exercising their democratic rights, have entrusted the Nationalist Party with the responsibility of governing the country. This government will govern for the next five years.
Regarding dengue prevention, the Prime Minister said, “Aedes mosquitoes do not differentiate between the ruling party and the opposition.” Therefore, he called upon everyone to participate in awareness activities to prevent dengue.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister instructed doctors to ensure a clean environment in hospitals.
