The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur observed the Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day 2021 with due fervour and solemnity. An elaborate program was undertaken by the High Commission to observe the day in a befitting manner.
For the first time, the High Commission organizeda virtual programin collaboration with the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO.H.E. Mr. Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh participated in the event as the �Guest of Honour�. In his speech, he emphasized on the contribution of mother languages in preserving cultural diversity, nurturing creativity, and promoting multilingualism. He also thanked the organizers for arranging a program that involves the core identity of human being�the language.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia H.E.Mr. Md. Golam Sarwaralso delivered welcome speech in the event. A documentary titled "History of 21 February: International Mother Language Day�.
In the morning of 21st February, the High Commissioner placed the National Flag at half-mast at the chancery premises in the presence of the Mission officials.Then the High Commissioner put the floral wreath at the makeshift Shaheed Minar.
A special prayer was offered for the salvation of the departed souls of language martyrs and one-minute silence was observed. It was followed by reading out the messages from the Honourable President, Honourable Prime Minister, Honourable Foreign Minister and Honourable State Minister for Foreign Affairs. A short documentary titled �My Tongue� was screened on the background of the Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day.
In his speech, the High Commissioner paid a rich tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the language martyrs, 3 million martyrs and 2 lakh violated women of the Liberation War. He said that the Language Movement paved the way for the ultimate independence of the country. He also urged everyone to work harder to realize Bangabandhu�s Golden Bengal.
Earlier, the High Commission co-organized a two-day virtual event on 18-19 February 2021 in conjunction with Centre for Genocide Studies, Dhaka University, School of Liberal Arts, Taylor�s University Malaysia and Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Malaysia.
