Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in five districts across the country to maintain internal law and order and to counter potential security risks. The districts are Cox’s Bazar, Madaripur, Sherpur, Gazipur, and Moulvibazar.

This information was announced in a press release issued by BGB headquarters on Monday evening (June 22).

The press release stated that BGB members have been deployed in these districts following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. They will perform their duties from Monday evening until June 30, in coordination with the respective district administrations and law enforcement agencies.

It was also informed that BGB members in other districts of the country have been kept on standby for immediate deployment as needed.

Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to deploy army personnel in six important districts: Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Gopalganj, Faridpur, and Chattogram. These army personnel will operate under ‘Aid to Civil Power’ from June 22 to June 30.

A letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs specified that there is a risk of deterioration in the law and order situation due to potential sabotage and illegal activities by a banned political organization. Therefore, the decision to deploy army personnel in these areas was made to ensure public safety and prevent loss of life and property.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented special security measures to maintain law and order in the capital around June 23. Police reported that surveillance and security have been intensified across Dhaka to avert any potential untoward incidents.
