BGB pushes back 71 Rohingyas in Coxs Bazar

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh said on Sunday they have thwarted attempts of intruding into the country being tried by ethnic minority Rohingyas through Balukhali border under Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar.

The BGB personnel foiled the attempts of intrusion while a number of 71 Rohingyas were attempting to enter into Bangladesh from Myanmar early today, said Lieutenant Colonel Manjurul Hasan Khan, commanding officer of BGB battalion-34.

The commanding officer said heavy sounds of gunshots were heard on Sunday morning in the bordering areas of Myanmar from Gumdhum border point in Bangladesh.

And the sounds were also heard on Saturday afternoon triggering panic among Rohingya people, he said.

Several thousands of them gathered at the ‘zero line’ marking the border with Bangladesh.

Myanmar authorities were committing crimes against humanity not only against ethnic minority Rohingyas, he added.

Local people were providing food help to the refugee Rohingyas gathering at the border, said Kamal Uddin, member of Gumdhum union parishad under Naikhyangchari upazila in Bandarban.

The BGB director general, Major General Abul Hossain, will visit Gumdhum border this afternoon, Manjurul Hasan said.

Meanwhile, one of two bullet-injured Rohingyas died at Dumdumia of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar this morning after they managed to cross the River Naff, said Lieutenant Colonel Robiul Islam, commanding officer of BGB battalion-2.

The body would be come to Myanmar, he added.
