BNP Secretary General and Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, stated that the party wants to amend the constitution, not reform it. He said that BNP has never spoken of constitutional reform.

He made these remarks on Friday (July 17) morning at a memorial meeting organized on the occasion of the sixth death anniversary of Professor Emajuddin Ahmed.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “We will implement the July Charter. We will adhere to every letter of it. This is our commitment.”

Regarding the constitution, he said, “We have always maintained that we want to amend the constitution. We have never spoken of constitutional reform.”

He further added, “We do not want July to become just another tool for gaining power. The July movement is not merely a movement of that month; it is the culmination of a long struggle against fascism.”

Criticizing rival political parties, the BNP Secretary General said that some political parties are attempting to incite the public with various provocative statements. However, he also emphasized that BNP remains committed to implementing the July Charter as per its pledge.
