Barrister Rumin Farhana, Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, has claimed that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) planned to end her political career through her expulsion. According to her, the party’s decision was to politically isolate her.

She made these remarks on Saturday (October 10) while participating in a talk show on a private television channel.

During the talk show, Rumin Farhana stated, “BNP’s decision was to end my career.” When asked by the host why the party took such a stance against her after she had long been involved in BNP politics and spoke on behalf of the party, she replied that there could be many reasons behind it.

Explaining the matter, she cited the example of working in a corporate institution. Rumin Farhana said that if a superior officer perceives an employee as more talented or skilled than themselves, an adverse situation can arise from it.

Regarding BNP’s decision, she mentioned that nearly seven months have passed since the incident, and she has been speaking about the issue for a long time. Her accusation is that the BNP perhaps wanted to keep her as a reserved women’s seat MP but did not want to give her the opportunity to advance in direct political activities.

Highlighting her political standing in the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, Rumin Farhana said that she has worked in that area for the past eight to nine years. She decided to participate in the election based on her understanding of the people’s sentiments and needs in the area.

She asserted that she did not decide to risk her entire political career without speaking to the public or understanding the local political situation. Referring to her long-standing relationship with the BNP, she added that just because she once engaged in BNP politics does not mean the party is obligated to rely on her talent and capability.

The talk show host reminded Rumin Farhana that after her expulsion from BNP, she had stated she would fulfill the responsibility entrusted to her by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to continue the struggle until her last breath. At this point, the host inquired whether protecting the interests of the BNP was part of that responsibility.

In response, Rumin Farhana said that according to BNP’s own statement, the party is greater than the individual, and the country is greater than the party. She believes that, in light of Khaleda Zia’s statements, the country’s interests should be considered first. She claimed that she is determining her position based on this consideration.

Rumin Farhana was expelled from the BNP for defying party decisions by submitting her nomination papers as an independent candidate in the Thirteenth National Parliament Election.

Her expulsion was announced in a notification signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on December 30, 2025. She decided to run as an independent candidate in the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency after failing to secure a party nomination.

The BNP considered her participation in the election against the coalition’s candidate as a violation of party discipline and decisions, leading to the action taken against her.

Since her expulsion, Rumin Farhana has repeatedly spoken about her political relationship with the BNP and the party’s decisions. In her latest statement during the television talk show, she reiterated her claim that the BNP’s decision was aimed at ending her political career.
