Five people were killed and 26 others injured in a fatal road accident at Noy Mile on Bogra-Dhaka highway in Shahjahanpur thana of the district on Monday (jan 1) afternoon.
Three of the deceased were identified as- Mithila, 20, daughter of Masud of Ulipur village of Sherpur upazila, Mahi Khatun, 23, daughter of Altaf Hossain of Baroduari village of Sherpur upazila and Saju, 34, son of Sirajul Islam of Dhangora village of Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj.
The accident took place when a bus collided head-on with a covered van around 4 pm, leaving the covered van driver dead on the spot and 30 others injured, said Officer-in-Charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station Zia Latiful Islam.
Among the injured, four died on way to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
