College student stabbed by young man

Sylhet Correspondent: A female college student was allegedly stabbed by a young man at Rasulpur village in Jakiganj upazila on Sunday for rejecting a love proposal.

The injured was identified as Jhuma Begum, daughter of Mulsim Ali, a resident of the village and a 2nd year honours student of Beanibazar College.

Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jakiganj Police Station, said Bahar Uddin, 22, son of Abdul Gafur, a resident of the same village, attacked Jhuma while she along with her mother Karima Begum was going to Kaliganj Bazar in the afternoon.

Bahar stabbed Jhuma indiscriminately, leaving her critically injured.

Jhuma’s mother also received injuries as she tried to protect her daughter.

Jhuma was admitted at Sylhet M A G Osmani Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.

On information police visited the spot.

However, police could not arrest Bahar as he went into hiding after the incident.
