The incidence of dengue continues to rise in the country. In the last 24 hours, four more people have died from dengue. During the same period, 2,193 patients were admitted to hospitals, marking the highest single-day admission record this year. With this, the total number of dengue deaths this year has climbed to 303. Meanwhile, the number of patients admitted to hospitals is approaching one lakh.
These figures were disclosed in the regular dengue bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday (October 11).
According to DGHS data, 58 people have died from dengue in the first 10 days of October alone. Prior to this, September recorded the highest number of deaths with 148 fatalities. Additionally, 43 deaths occurred in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.
The bulletin stated that in the 24 hours from 8 AM Saturday, 2,193 dengue patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country. This brings the total number of hospitalized patients this year to 99,275.
Meanwhile, 1,796 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours. A total of 92,403 dengue patients have recovered and returned home this year.
Regarding divisional hospital admissions in the last 24 hours, Dhaka division recorded the highest number of patients with 1,030. Additionally, Khulna admitted 304 patients, Chattogram 293, Barishal 236, Rajshahi 160, Rangpur 84, and Mymensingh 70 patients.
The situation is becoming alarming as both dengue deaths and the number of hospitalized patients continue to rise.
