The second, or budget, session of the Thirteenth National Parliament is set to begin on Sunday (June 7). The session will convene at 3 PM at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (National Parliament House) located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, the capital. President Mohammed Shahabuddin has called for this session in accordance with the Constitution.

The National Parliament Secretariat has announced that this will be the current government’s first budget session. The decision to convene the session was communicated via a notification signed by Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, on May 7.

The Parliament Secretariat stated that all necessary preparations have been completed for the smooth conduct of the session. As per clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the session will commence in the Parliament chamber at the President’s call.

Primarily, the presentation, discussion, and passing of the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will take place during this session. The budget for the new fiscal year will outline the government’s development plans, economic targets, and allocations for various sectors. Subsequently, Members of Parliament will engage in detailed discussions on the budget.

It is noteworthy that the Parliament’s budget session is held annually in June to discuss the national budget. Previously, the first session of the Thirteenth National Parliament began on March 12 and concluded on April 30.
