Former Member of Parliament for Tangail-5 Constituency and Former Home Minister, Central Vice Chairman of BNP Major General (Retd.) Mahmudul Hasan passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).
He breathed his last due to old age at his residence in the capital on Wednesday (December 31) at 3 pm. He was 90 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by numerous relatives, colleagues, well-wishers and well-wishers including one son and one daughter.
Mahmudul Haque Sanu, the former member secretary of the district BNP, confirmed the matter and said that the veteran politician died at his residence in the capital. On Thursday (January 1) Bad Johar Tangail Town Bindu Basini Government Boys School grounds will be held with namaaz janaza.
The death of Major General Mahmudul Hasan has cast a shadow of mourning among the people of all walks of life including BNP leaders and activists in Tangail. BNP’s central campaign secretary and BNP’s nominated parliamentary candidate for Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency Sultan Salauddin Tuku has expressed deep grief over his death.
In his condolence message, he said, Major General (Retd.) Mahmudul Hasan has worked tirelessly to build ideal Tangail throughout his life. He was a social worker, devoted and responsible person. His contribution to education and social development was undeniable. Tangail Sadar lost a guardian in his death.
Sultan Salahuddin Tuku prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
Note, Major General (Retd.) Mahmudul Hasan was born on March 1, 1936 in Makorkol village of Tangail Sadar Upazila. He served as the Ministry of Home Affairs during the regime of President Ershad. In his political career, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time in 1988 as a candidate of Jatiya Party. He was later elected from BNP in 1996 and 2001 and became a Member of Parliament again in the 2012 by-election.
