From Fashion Design to Global Business Leadership: Farhana Imam’s 18-Year Journey

Farhana Imam laid the foundation of her professional life with studies in Fashion Design and Technology. That journey has now expanded to a leadership role in international fashion and retail business. After working with various international brands including Puma and George during her long 18-year career, she is currently serving as Business Area Manager at Marks & Spencer.

Recently, BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) highlighted the professional journey of its alumna, Farhana Imam, in their ‘Alumna Spotlight’.

According to information published by the university, Farhana was a student of the 004 batch of the Fashion Design and Technology (FDT) department at the then BIFT. Although she started with technical education in fashion, her scope of work has expanded over time to business development and commercial management.

In her 18-year career, she has worked on the commercial growth of international brands such as Puma (PUMA), George, and currently Marks & Spencer.

As a Business Area Manager at Marks & Spencer, her responsibilities include key areas such as marketing, business development, sourcing, stakeholder management, and commercial strategy.

Regarding her professional philosophy, Farhana states that the foundation of success lies in effective implementation of plans, taking full responsibility for work, and maintaining a continuous learning mindset.

She also mentions the educational foundation she received at BUFT as instrumental in building her international career. Farhana says that the education and skills acquired there created opportunities for her to enter the international fashion world.

BUFT has highlighted Farhana Imam’s long journey from a fashion design student to a business leader in a global retail institution as an example of professional success for its alumni.
