Gazette Issued Declaring Mirza Fakhrul Elected President

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a gazette declaring Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the 23rd President.

The related gazette, signed by Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the EC, was issued on Thursday (August 20).

The gazette states: “Based on the declaration of the electoral officer and election commissioner, in accordance with Section 11 of the President Election Act, 1991, and Rule 12(6) of the President Election Rules, 1991, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is hereby declared elected to the post of President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.”

Earlier, the electoral officer, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin, announced the results. He stated that out of 349 total registered voters, 343 votes were cast. In the election, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir secured 255 votes, while Colonel (Retd.) Oli received 88 votes.

The EC had announced the election schedule for the vacant post on August 6, following the resignation of the 22nd president on July 24, who cited illness.
