28 February 2017, 6:50:29

Sports Reporter:Rangana Herath as captain will lead Sri Lanka in the Tests against Bangladesh, while prolific domestic left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara joins him in the squad, Sri Lanka Cricket has declared.

Sri Lanka Cricket said the 38-year-old left-arm spinner Herath was made captain although he had retired from the shorter formats of the game.

It was not said why Mathews was dropped from the Test squad, but he returned home last month half way through the South African tour after twisting his ankle.

These are the only squad details released so far, however. It is likely the remainder of the squad has not been picked yet – an earlier release stated the selectors were not due to meet until Tuesday.
