In response to a US attack on Larak Island, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a large-scale missile and drone attack on US military bases in Jordan. At the same time, Tehran warned Washington that every attack against Iran would be met with an even more devastating response.
According to an IRGC statement published in Iranian media, missiles and drones targeted Jordan’s King Hussein and Al Azraq bases in a joint operation codenamed ‘Punishment of the Aggressor’.
The IRGC claims the attacks destroyed technical and repair infrastructure and aircraft deployment areas at the bases. The Iranian force also claimed ‘significant damage’. However, these claims by the IRGC could not be independently verified, and no detailed information about the damage was immediately available from either the US or Jordan.
In the statement, the IRGC said, ‘Attempts to weaken the Islamic Republic of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz through aggression and crime will not succeed. Every attack will be answered even more destructively.’
Meanwhile, IRGC spokesman Sardar Mohebi commented that the US made a ‘strategic and grave mistake’ after the American attack on Larak Island.
In a statement published by Iran’s Fars News Agency, Mohebi stated that the US would suffer the consequences of the attack on Larak ‘both economically and militarily.’
The US attack on Larak Island and the retaliatory claim of an attack on US military installations in Jordan have further intensified the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
