Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has rejected allegations of a purported nexus with the Awami League and claims that his party has forgiven it. He challenged the Prime Minister to present evidence for such accusations. He also demanded proof for statements made by the Prime Minister, citing intelligence information against the opposition.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made these remarks on Saturday (October 23) in response to journalists’ questions at the Moulvibazar Circuit House Auditorium.

Alluding to the Prime Minister’s statements, the Jamaat Ameer said that instead of making allusive statements against the opposition, the matter should be clarified. He stated that it must be proven where, when, with whom, and how Jamaat colluded with the Awami League.

He said that making sweeping statements without factual evidence as Prime Minister is wrong. He urged her to accept his challenge by presenting evidence on the matter.

Regarding allegations of illegal money, weapons, and drugs entering the country through the border, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that if such illegal goods enter the country while the government is in charge, the government bears the responsibility. He also commented that those concerned should resign for such failures.

Explaining the allegation of forgiving the Awami League, the Jamaat Ameer said that in a press conference on August 12, he personally stated that he would not seek revenge on anyone. However, he also mentioned that if affected individuals or families sought legal recourse, they would receive full cooperation.

He alleged that a specific television channel distorted his statement and broadcast a photocart claiming that the Jamaat Ameer had forgiven the Awami League.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that in his 22-minute speech, he never once uttered the word ‘Awami League’. He also stated that if any media outlet could prove that his speech contained a mention of forgiving the Awami League, he would apologize to the nation.

Alluding to other political parties, the Jamaat Ameer alleged that Awami League and Jubo League activists were being given posts, positions, and rehabilitation opportunities through DO letters in various parts of the country. Yet, he commented, allegations are being raised against Jamaat regarding these matters.

In this context, he criticized the accusers’ statements by quoting the proverb, ‘Who is in the temple, I do not eat bananas’ (meaning, the one doing the wrong is accusing others).
