The grave site of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been opened to the public. Zia Udyan was opened at around 12 noon on Thursday (January 1).
Many of the party leaders and workers along with common people flocked to the area since morning to pay their respects to Khaleda Zia. As the park is closed, many people are waiting at the barricade at the entrance of the park at Vijay Samari Mor. Unable to go to the burial place, many people stand on the road and pray.
It is known that due to ongoing renovation work, entry is closed. Now it has been opened. Along with the police, there are also members of other forces in the security of the entire park.
Earlier on Wednesday (December 31) around 3 pm, the funeral of the former Prime Minister was completed in the Imamate of Khatib Abdul Malek of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. After that at 5:30 in the afternoon, she was buried with full state honors next to the grave of her late husband Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan in Sherbangla Nagar of the capital.
Begum Khaleda Zia died last Tuesday (December 30) at 6 am while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. On November 23, he was admitted to the hospital with respiratory problems due to a lung infection. Then came pneumonia, along with old problems of kidney, liver, arthritis and diabetes. He was taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital as his condition worsened after admission to the hospital. He was in the ICU until his death.
