Landslides in Hill tracts area kill 4

At least four people, including two children were killed and five others wounded in two seperate landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Kalatoli and Ramu areas of Cox's Bazar on Monday night.

 

The incidents took place around 2:oo am at Kalatoli while 3:00 am at Ramu.

 

 

 

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Sahed, 18, and Saddam, 28, from Kalatoli and two siblings, Jihan, 7, and Sayma, 5, from Ramu.

 

 

 

The parents of Jihan and Sayma wounded during the landslide and they were immediately taken to Ramu Upazila health complex, local people and Fire Service sources said.

 

 

 

Municipality councilor Zisan Uddin said two people died on the spot and three others sustained injuries as a large chunk of hilly mud fell upon them in Lighthouse area of Sadar municipality in Cox’s Bazar around 2:00 am.

 

 

 

The wounded were admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment, he said.

 

 

 

An excessive downpour since Monday afternoon caused the landslide, witnesses said.
