Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani had first given the mantra of independence

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior joint secretary general, on Monday demanded the chief justice’s observation — Bangladesh was not set freed by single leadership — in the recent verdict on the 16th amendment was not incorrect.

Addressing a discussion ahead of a prayer session at BNP central office, Rizvi said Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani had first given the ‘mantra’ of independence.

He asked where the contribution of Ziaur Rahman would go who proclaimed independence when Awami League leaders had fled the country.

Rizvi questioned then what had done politicians like Oli Ahad,  Moni Singh, and Mozaffar Ahmed. The liberation war and independence of country did not take place by a single leadership, he said.

Rather, there was controversial role of Awami League leaders during the war of independence in 1971, he alleged.

The prayer session was also arranged to pray for eternal peace of departed soul of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of Khaleda Zia and Shahid Ziaur Rahman, on the occasion of his 48th birth anniversary.

Rizvi came down hard on the police for picking up some activists of Swechchhasebak Dal from in front of BNP central office who came to join the event.

A number of police took position in front of the party central office at Nayapaltan during the programme.
