Advocate Monjila Sultana Jhuma, a leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has announced that she will not contest the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary election. She made the announcement in a Facebook post late Sunday night.

In her post, Jhuma said the NCP initially nominated candidates in 125 constituencies, and she was nominated from Khagrachhari-298 with the Shapla Kali election symbol. On 24 December, the party’s Khagrachhari district convener collected her nomination papers, and Monday was the final date for submission.

She also stated that she had informed the party’s convener, Nahid Islam, of her decision to withdraw around two hours earlier.

Concluding her post, Jhuma wrote:
“I believe the youth will go to parliament — if not today, then tomorrow.”

Monjila Sultana Jhuma currently serves as the South Region Organizer of the National Citizens Party. She was expected to contest the Khagrachhari seat as the NCP candidate, and her name had been discussed in political circles in connection with a seat-sharing arrangement with a coalition of eight parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Following various developments, the coalition finalized its seat-sharing arrangement. According to party sources, the NCP will contest 30 to 35 seats, including at least five constituencies in Dhaka.
