Prime Minister Calls for Students to Plant One Tree Annually

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon all students of government primary schools in the country to plant at least one tree every year.

He made this call on Wednesday (July 15) morning at the inauguration of a nationwide tree plantation program in government primary schools, following the ‘Primary Education Award-2026’ ceremony organized by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.

As part of the implementation of pledges 17 and 18 of the government’s electoral manifesto, various competitions, including sports, cultural events, subject-based quizzes, cubbing, and debates, were organized with the participation of students from third to fifth grades. These competitions were held progressively from the Upazila (sub-district) level up to the national level.

This year’s event saw the participation of 21,828,693 school-level students from across the country. The ‘Primary Education Award-2026’ was presented to the best-selected students after they successfully navigated through various stages.

Additionally, in recognition of special contributions to education, 12,384 individuals were honored across 15 categories, and the best individuals and institutions were selected from among 65,546 institutions across two categories.

After the ceremony, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the nationwide tree plantation program in government primary schools and urged students to play an active role in environmental conservation by planting at least one tree every year.
