A village police rally will be held on November 7 at the former trade fair grounds in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, the capital. Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has agreed to attend as the chief guest.

To ensure the success of the rally, the Local Government Division has called a preparatory meeting for next Tuesday (October 13). The meeting will be held at 11 AM in the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

This information was conveyed in a notice issued by the Local Government Division on Thursday (October 8). State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Meer Shahe Alam, will provide guidance as the chief guest at the meeting. Md. Shahidul Hasan, Secretary of the Local Government Division, will preside over it.

Village police play a vital role at the union level in maintaining law and order, assisting police stations in crime prevention, conducting patrols, and carrying out various government duties. However, members have long complained about inadequate salaries, allowances, and facilities compared to their responsibilities.

Various village police organizations have been demanding inclusion in the national pay scale, re-determination of pay grades, rations, medical and risk allowances, payment of arrears, and retirement financial benefits. Stakeholders expect these demands to gain prominence around the rally.
