Prime Minister Tareq Rahman is scheduled to visit Khulna and Mongla on Thursday to assess port expansion, energy infrastructure development, and new investment opportunities. Businesspeople and the general public anticipate that his visit will prioritize issues related to economic expansion and job creation in the southwestern region.
According to the itinerary, the Prime Minister will depart Dhaka by helicopter on Thursday (October 22) morning to observe the natural beauty of Sundarbans and Hiron Point, as well as significant parts of the coastal areas. He will then land at Naluan Secondary School grounds in Dacope Upazila, Khulna. From there, he will proceed by boat with the Coast Guard to Akram Point to review the feasibility of establishing a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.
Subsequently, upon reaching Mongla, the Prime Minister will attend a scheduled meeting with relevant officials. During this time, he is expected to inspect the jetties and commercial operations of Mongla Port, as well as visit the site of BEZA’s proposed economic zone. Sources indicate that these programs will emphasize infrastructure development centered around the port, trade expansion, and new investment opportunities.
Administrative preparations and security measures have been intensified in the Khulna and Mongla regions ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Relevant administrative sources have confirmed that law enforcement agencies, the Coast Guard, and concerned departments are coordinating to ensure a smooth visit.
Md. Burhan Uddin Mithu, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dacope, stated that the Prime Minister will land by helicopter at Naluan Secondary School grounds on October 22 and proceed to his next destination by water. However, he clarified that there are no official administrative or political programs scheduled for his visit to Dacope.
Local Member of Parliament Amir Ejaz Khan remarked that although it is an official visit, local residents are eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. He added that the administration and local representatives have made comprehensive preparations to ensure the success of the visit.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit Khulna again on November 5. On that day, he is expected to inaugurate the second season of ‘Notun Kuri Sports’ at the Khulna District Stadium.
Businesspeople and local residents view the Prime Minister’s visit as crucial, given the natural resources of the Sundarbans, the commercial potential of Mongla Port, and the proposed industrial zone. They hope that the implementation of planned infrastructural development and investment initiatives will create new opportunities for employment and economic expansion in the southwestern region.
