
‘Zila Parishad polls fair, peaceful’

Staff Correspondent:Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Wednesday said in a press release that the countrywide Zila Parishad election was held in a fair and peaceful manner.
“The maiden election to Zila Parishad was held in a fair and peaceful atmosphere,” he told a post-election briefing at the Election Commission Secretariat.
The CEC said elected representatives of different local government bodies cast their votes in the Zila Parishad polls. The balloting was held from 9 am to 2 pm without any interval, he added.
The Election Commission arranged election to 61 Zila Parishads (district councils) across the country except three Chittagong Hill Tracks districts – Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban.
Of the district councils, the voting was held in 836 polling stations in 59 districts, while the balloting was not required in
