A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Salim Osman in a case recorded for humiliating school teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta in public in Narayanganj.

Chief judicial magistrate Jasmine Ara Begum delivered the bail upon a bond of Tk 20,000 after hearing on a bail petition lodged by Salim’s lawyer Kazi Najibullah Hiru.

The court also appointed July 4 for next hearing.

Earlier, the Narayanganj MP surrendered to the court on May 14.

The court ordered Salim to appear before it on May 23 as he submitted a bail order issued by the High Court on May 8.

In May 2016, Shyamal Kanti, headmaster of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Narayanganj, was humiliated and forced to squat holding his ears in presence of the local Jatiya Party lawmaker.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media network sparking off huge protests across the country.
