Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently residing in India as a fugitive and a death-row convict, will not be issued a regular passport or a travel pass to return to the country, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir announced. He stated that she must be brought back to Bangladesh from Delhi under the existing extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs made these remarks on Thursday (November 5) afternoon while speaking to journalists after seeing off Liu Haixing, the Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

During the discussion, he commented that if the proposed tripartite corridor involving China, Bangladesh, and Myanmar is implemented, the entire region would transform into a major commercial hub. Humayun Kabir stated that Dhaka has significant interest in joining this regional corridor, but a permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis is needed first.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs expressed hope that Liu Haixing’s visit would lead to deeper and more dynamic bilateral and strategic relations between China and Bangladesh in the days to come.
