Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said on Friday whatever occurred with Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal in England during his stay with English county club Essex it was not a ‘ serious’ matter.
Tamim was scheduled to play at least eight matches for Essex Eagles in NatWest t20 Blast tournament but he came back after just one match and did not take any payment from them for it.
The opener refused to unveil the reason behind his sudden departure but it was widely reported that his family was a target of hate crime in East London.
BCB sources confirmed reporters that some unidentified people chased his wife Ayesha Siddiqa and his one-year-old son, threatening them with acid attack.
‘It’s a sensitive issue,’ Nazmul told reporters at his residence. ‘It is sensitive in a sense that it has an impact. If it had really happened the important thing was to go to police station and report it to them. But it is not that serious the way we are thinking about it or how it has come in the media,’ Nazmul said when asked about the reported incident.
