The decision of the school holiday in Ramadan was announced by the Ministry of Education

In the academic year 2026, schools in secondary and lower secondary schools of the country will be open almost throughout the month of Ramadan. The Ministry of Education released the holiday list and syllabus on Sunday (December 28).

In the notification signed by Sabina Yasmin, Deputy Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, it is said that in the 2026 academic year, there will be 64 days of public holidays, which is less than 76 days in 2025.

Main points mentioned in the notification:
Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays: Total 19 days from March 8 to 26. Fasting may begin on February 17 (depending on moon sighting). Schools will remain open till 21 Ramadan.
Eidul Ajha and summer vacation: 12 days from 24 May to 4 June.
Durga Puja: 5 days from 18 to 22 October.
Winter vacation and Christmas: 10 days from 20 to 29 December.

Furthermore, holidays have been curtailed – holidays on some days including Shavemeraj, Janmashtami, Ashura have been cancelled. In 2025, there were 28 days off including fasting, Dola Yatra, Independence Day, Jumatul Bida, Shabekdar and Eid-ul-Fitr; In 2026 it has been restricted to 19 days.

Exam Schedule:
Half-yearly/pre-selection exam: June 26 to July 10, result on July 29.
Selective exam: October 29 to November 10, result on November 18.
Annual exam: November 19 to December 6, result on December 30.
Junior Scholarship exam: December 15 to 20, result on December 30.

The Ministry of Education said that according to the new curriculum, the teaching schedule in the educational institutions will be managed more systematically.
