The govt is thinking of establishing a specialized hospital for hemophilia patients

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Tuesday told Parliament that the government is thinking of establishing a specialized hospital for hemophilia patients.

The minister also said that, there are some 3,000 hemophilia patients in the country according to Hemophilia Foundation's statistics, reports UNB.

Besides, 98 percent of domestic demand of medicines is met by locally-produced products, he added.

Responding to a tabled question from Awami League MP Israfil Alam (Naogaon-6), the minister said there are 851 pharmaceutical factories in the country, and 266 of those are allopathic, 267 Yunani, 207 Ayurvedic, 79 homeopathic and 32 herbal ones.

Answering to a tabled question from another ruling party MP Didarul Alam (Chittagong-4), Nasim said the licences of 86 pharmaceutical factories have so far been suspended, while that of 19 cancelled for producing substandard medicines and not following the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) properly.
