BNP has smelt a rat at finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith’s comments that the constitution would be amended repeatedly to reoccupy parliament's power to impeach Supreme Court judges for ‘incapacity’ and ‘misconduct’.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a news briefing at the central office on Saturday said the finance minister's statement represents the statement of the government.
On Friday, finance minister Muhith, while inspecting the proposed site of Sylhet Medical University in the city, said, ‘We will pass the amendment in parliament again and again. And it will be done repeatedly if necessary to see how far the judiciary can go.’
Rizvi said the statement over the verdict of court is tantamount to ‘contempt’ of court.
