Teachers, students, and employees of educational institutions are set to enjoy a continuous 10-day holiday on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. This extended break is made possible by combining the scheduled Durga Puja holidays with weekly off days. However, the duration of the holidays may vary depending on the type of educational institution and its specific holiday calendar.
According to the government holiday list, holidays for Mahanavami on October 20 and Bijoya Dashami on October 21 are scheduled for Durga Puja. Additionally, with October 22 declared a holiday by executive order, government employees are also receiving a continuous five-day holiday. This opportunity arises due to weekly holidays falling on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24.
As per the holiday list for government and private secondary and lower-secondary schools for the year 2026, holidays for Durga Puja have been designated from October 18 to 22. Including weekly holidays before and after, along with the Lakshmi Puja holiday on October 25, students have the opportunity for an extended break. Overall, according to the calendar, a continuous 10-day holiday from October 16 to 25 is being provided.
Meanwhile, according to the holiday schedule of the college branch under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, colleges have been granted holidays from October 18 to 29 on the occasion of Durga Puja, Bijoya Dashami, Probarona Purnima, and Lakshmi Puja. With weekly holidays included, college teachers and students may get an even longer period of leave.
On the other hand, for government, private, MPO-listed, and Ibtedayi madrasas, holidays for Puja have been set from October 20 to 22. Consequently, there will be differences in the holiday schedules for schools, colleges, and madrasas.
However, the holiday schedules are not uniform for universities. Since the government holiday list is not directly applicable to all universities in the country, holidays will be determined according to the academic calendar and administrative decisions of the respective universities. For this reason, the duration of holidays for Durga Puja may vary from one university to another.
