11 killed in Narsingdi road accident

Narsingdi Correspondent:At least 11 people were killed and 25 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Belabo upazila in Narsingdi on Sunday morning.

All the deceased including two children and four women were the passengers of the microbus, police said. They were the residents of Nikli upazila in Kishoreganj.

The deceased were identified as Manik Mia, 42, his wife Mafia Khanam, 35, and their son Antar, 8, Hasan, 45, Hira, 42, and his wife Jannat, 37, residents of village Chhatirchar in Nikli.

The deadly accident took place just a day after 13 people were killed and 20 others were injured as a bus and a covered-van collided head-on and subsequently caught fire on Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Gazaria of Nagarkanda in Faridpur on Friday night.

Narsingdi district police control room said the accident took place at Darikandi between the microbus and a bus of Agradut Paribahan.

Belabo police officer-in-charge Md Badrul Alam Khan said the accident occurred around 7:00am when the Dhaka-bound bus from Sylhet collided with the Bhairab-bound Microbus from Dhaka, leaving 11 people dead on the spot.

Local people and Belabo police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to different hospitals.

Of them, eight were sent to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex in Kishoreganj.

Siraj Mia, 55, Kawsar 35, and Miraj, 2, passengers of the microbus, were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition from the health complex.

Police seized the vehicles but the bus driver and his assistant managed to flee.
