Some 3,700 doctors have been provided training on Chikungunya in the wake of outbreak of the mosquito-borne viral disease in the capital and elsewhere in the country.
This information was published at the 17th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health Ministry on Tuesday.
The meeting was executed at the Jatiya Sangsad with committee chairman Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim in the chair, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.
The parliamentary watchdog recommended the ministry to modernise the National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute and increase the number of ICUs at the hospital.
The committee asked the ministry to provide each resident physician (private) with Tk 20.000 as monthly honourarium for ensuring round-the-clock treatment to patients in 19 government medical college hospitals.
Committee members Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, State Minister Zahid Maleque, Dr Md Eunus Ali Sarkar, Nizam Uddin Hazari, Salina Begum and Jewel Areng attended the meeting.
